Part of Sunday's excitement is the quick jump into elections. Delegates who met their fellow citizens just hours before, use a petition process for gaining nomination as either City Mayor or two City Councilwoman positions. 20% of the city population must sign a petition for candidates to earn their place on the ballot. Electioneering begins immediately and voting took place Sunday evening after all citizens became registered voters of the mythical state.
City election results were announced this morning in Taylor Auditorium. The delegates then heard greetings from and were able to ask questions of City of Gunnison Mayor, Stu Ferguson. Mayor Ferguson, whose daughter attended Girls State, has been a friend of the program for many years and we appreciate the contribution of his time and experiences to the program.
